Biography
Erika Nicholson is a Nova
Scotia–based fibre and visual
artist whose work blends
storytelling, texture, and a
gentle sense of whimsy. Working across mediums -
including rug hooking,
weaving, needle felting,
watercolour, oil painting, and
illustration - she creates
pieces that draw from
memory, imagination, and the
rhythms of coastal life.
Although largely self-
directed, Erika has studied
with and been inspired by
many Nova Scotian artists
and makers. Their influence,
combined with her curiosity
about traditional craft
practices, informs her
multidisciplinary approach.
For Erika, creating is about
personal experimentation,
exploration and growth. It is
a restorative practice that is
grounding and joyful -
feelings that she hopes to
share with viewers. Each
piece is a celebration of this
joy - designed to touch the
heart, invite curiosity and
bring a smile. Hence the
name she operates under,
and has done so since her
childhood days of hand-drawn
cards - Positively Loopy. It
offers a nurturing
counterbalance in a crazy
world.
